Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting extreme environments. However, the development of ideas is limited. The benefit mentioned (earning money via YouTube) is somewhat narrow and does not fully explore the broader appeal of such travel, such as personal growth or scientific interest. The disadvantages are mentioned, but the explanation is hampered by unclear examples, such as the reference to a BBC report which lacks clarity. While a position is stated, the supporting arguments lack depth and the overall development is superficial, which is characteristic of a Band 5 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion' are present, they are used in a somewhat formulaic manner. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs is disjointed. The lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure make the text feel somewhat disjointed, limiting the score to a Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'rough or tough' instead of 'harsh', 'loose their life' instead of 'lose their lives', and 'deferent video' instead of 'different videos'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the inaccuracies often impede the clarity of the message. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely, keeping the score at a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people are chose'), article usage, and tense consistency. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
