Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting difficult tourist conditions like the Sahara or Antarctic. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the introduction contains an incomplete sentence ('In my opinion, I believe .'), and the discussion on benefits wanders into unrelated school trip examples and vague statements about busy schedules rather than focusing directly on the intrinsic appeal of extreme tourism. The conclusion introduces new ideas such as government bans and social media influencers that were not properly integrated earlier in the essay. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the lack of clear, fully supported examples results in an under-developed response that aligns best with Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are misused or applied mechanically, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Despite of benefits, There are disadvantages also' and 'In the other words'. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs contain abrupt shifts in topic, such as jumping from health issues to sudden climate changes without adequate linking. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader to guess the connection between sentences. These issues indicate a performance consistent with a Band 5 level in coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on everyday words like 'people', 'places', and 'things'. There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word formations, such as 'health related issue', 'fit and healthy', and 'cloud explode'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'precautions' and 'influencers', but control is lacking and collocation errors occur frequently. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the range of vocabulary remains limited and minimally adequate for the task, placing it firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures frequently result in serious structural errors and fragmented sentences, such as 'Because as school students decide to go to the trip' and 'Because heart or any respiratory related conditions people can suffer'. Punctuation and article usage are also problematic, with frequent missing or misplaced commas and periods disrupting the flow. Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, matching the criteria for a Band 4.5, which rounds to a Band 5 overall for this category.
