Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting remote, harsh locations like the Sahara desert and the Antarctic. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the economic boost for local businesses and the dangers of dead zones where communication fails. However, some arguments lack deeper elaboration or specific real-world examples, tending slightly toward generalisations. For instance, the reference to African nations showcasing survival skills could have been more focused. Overall, the task is well addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, benefits, disadvantages, and conclusion appropriately. Logical progression is generally maintained using transition markers such as 'To commence with benefits' and 'On the other hand'. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, referencing can be unclear, such as 'This trend bring several benefits, although risk associated with could not be ignored.' Paragraph transitions feel a bit rigid, and occasional awkward phrasing impacts the overall flow. These characteristics align closely with the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'surged', 'economical benefits', and 'survival situation'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and form, such as writing 'economical benefits' instead of 'economic benefits', 'dead zones where signals are unable to reach to device' instead of 'to devices', and 'please journey' instead of 'pleasant journey'. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'This trend bring' instead of 'brings', 'harsh condition' instead of 'harsh conditions', and 'tourism to the harsh remote area need proper planned layout' instead of 'needs a properly planned layout'. Punctuation and word form errors persist throughout the text. Although these errors rarely impede communication, they prevent the text from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 5.5.
