Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting difficult environments such as the Sahara desert and the Antarctic. The position is generally clear throughout, and relevant ideas are presented, such as experiencing unique nature, increasing knowledge, building confidence, dealing with dangerous weather, and the potential negative impact on the ecosystem. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and under-developed, particularly when discussing health impacts and medical facilities. Examples are provided, but they remain relatively basic. Overall, the content is sufficient for a Band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, a body paragraph for benefits, a body paragraph for disadvantages, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing and transitions are mechanical or faulty, such as 'one another disadvatage' and sudden shifts between ideas in the conclusion. The overall progression is coherent, but the awkward phrasing and occasional mechanical use of cohesive devices place this criterion firmly at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'ecosystem', 'transportation', and 'environmental'. However, there are numerous spelling errors and typos throughout the text, including 'Nowaday', 'visting', 'sahara', 'antrarctic', 'disadvanatages', 'wheather', 'facalities', and 'toursists'. Word choices are sometimes imprecise or repetitive. These lexical errors and limitations prevent the response from achieving a higher band, reflecting the characteristics of Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'while antarctic has extremely cold wheather' and 'so when people visting these place they must follow the safety and environmental rules.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving article usage, subject-verb agreement, capitalization, and punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods). Despite these persistent errors, the meaning can usually be understood, which aligns with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
