Student answer (Band 6.0)

Visiting the places where the weather conditions are very harsh like the Sahara desert and the Antarctic, is increasing amongst tourists with the passage of time. These days, people are very curious to explore new places, where they can get a unique experience. Visiting such places has various merits and demerits, which I will explain in the next paragraphs.

Exploring such places, tourists get excitement and experience because it gives them an opportunity to learn about the lives over there. They can explore that how the wildlife in a hot desert like, the Sahara desertand the icy place, like the Antarctic. To elaborate, people can also learn about the nature and different environment conditions at such places. Apart from that, visitors create jobs for local people like, tour guides, drivers and hotel workers etc. Moreover, tourists spend money there for living, transportation, and on food as well, which helps in the economic growth of such places. While visiting such different places, people can ge personal experience and can create unforgettable memories.

On the contrary, it has some disadvantages too. The weather at such places is very unpredictable and visitors are not ready for this like, extreme hot or cold, stroms and other challanges of living as well. Hence, they can put their lives at risk. They can aslo do environment damage, while leaving rubbish, and damaging the natural areas, which can affect the local lives. Not only this but they can also disturb the wildlife while doing some human activites. Last but not least, if tourists get lost at such places, it might be hard to rescue them because sometimes, there is no phone signal at these visiting places.

To conclude, visitng places like, the Sahara desert or the Antarctic can be enjoyable and memorable, but it can put people's lives at risk as well. If someone wants to visit such places, they should have proper guide for what to bring, what to do over there, where should they go or not etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: visiting harsh environments can be memorable, but it also involves risks. Relevant benefits include learning about wildlife and nature, creating jobs, and supporting local economies; the disadvantages include dangerous weather, environmental harm, disturbance to wildlife, and difficulties with rescue. This range of relevant points supports the response well. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the economic benefit is mentioned, but the response does not clarify how tourism can support communities in these remote locations. The advice in the conclusion is also general. To strengthen the response, develop a few key points with specific explanations or examples, while maintaining the balanced coverage already present.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the contrary,” “Moreover,” and “To conclude” help show how ideas relate. Within the main paragraphs, points are generally grouped appropriately, moving from personal and educational benefits to economic ones, then from physical risks to environmental concerns. Some linking phrases are used mechanically, however, and the benefits paragraph contains several ideas in a long sequence without much development. The conclusion also repeats the main contrast rather than drawing the points together in a more specific way. Use transitions selectively and connect related points through clearer explanation and reference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “unpredictable,” “economic growth,” “wildlife,” and “put their lives at risk,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “unforgettable memories.” However, the range and control are uneven: some phrases are imprecise or unnatural, including “learn about the lives over there,” “different environment conditions,” and “do environment damage.” Spelling errors such as “stroms,” “challanges,” “activites,” and “visitng” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “environmental conditions” and “damage the environment” express your intended meanings more clearly, while “local livelihoods” is more precise than “local lives.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “if,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some sentence patterns are handled successfully, such as “if tourists get lost at such places, it might be hard to rescue them.” However, errors occur in several structures. The opening has an unnecessary comma before “is increasing,” and “they can explore that how” uses an incorrect clause pattern. Other examples include “people can ge personal experience” and “they should have proper guide,” where the sentence forms and article use need correction. There are also awkward constructions such as “where should they go or not.” Practise accurate question-word clauses, articles, and sentence punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a complete and natural structure.
