Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the question and gives a clear overall view: exploring unfamiliar cultures and environments is beneficial, while extreme weather and communication difficulties are drawbacks. The examples of the Sahara’s heat and Antarctica’s cold help make the discussion relevant. However, some points are only briefly stated. For instance, the claim that local people may dislike tourists’ “interference” is not explained, and the benefits of cultural exploration could be developed with a specific example of what visitors learn or experience. The conclusion repeats the preference for benefits but does not weigh the risks in much detail. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each point and support the less-developed ideas with concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The contrast marker “Whereas” signals the move to drawbacks, and “Additionally” helps add a benefit. Overall, the reader can follow the main progression. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear: “These tourists place” does not clearly refer to the locations, and the opening of the drawbacks paragraph, “Whereas if visiting such a places have benefits,” is difficult to follow. Several ideas are also joined in long sequences without clear boundaries. Use more precise referencing and organise each body paragraph around a clear main point, followed by its explanation or example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “harsh weather,” “extreme hot or cold,” “communication barrier,” and “native language.” These choices make the main ideas understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable, such as “inappropriate for the weather conditions,” “people living style,” and “tavel.” Some expressions are repeated, particularly “such places” and “harsh weather,” which reduces precision. Aim to use more natural topic-specific phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, describe destinations as “remote or extreme environments,” and refer to “local customs” or “ways of life” rather than “people living style.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast between benefits and drawbacks and the clause “which cause problems for tourists to communicate with them.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur across the response. Examples include “people are like to to adventures,” “it get easy,” “it also have some drawbacks,” and “tourists faces.” Some sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “harsh weather. it give chance.” Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and complete clauses, and check articles and plural agreement. More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity without sacrificing the ideas.
