Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no speck ambiguity, travel for pleasure becomes a new leisure activity among many people. Majority of visitors are travelling to places such as Sahara and Antarctic, where it is very difficult to survive because of the worst weather conditions. However, others believe that there are advantages of visiting these places. I will explain the both in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Travelling to such places like Sahara and Antarctic leads to severe health and safety risks. Because of the extreme weather conditions tourists face life threatening conditions like severe dehydration in deserts and altitude sickness in Antarctic. This can be hazardous for their life as well. Moving further, trips to these places is exorbitant. Visitors need special tour guides and transportation charts which cost more money rather than going to any usual trip.

In contrast, travellers can experience the sightseeing views such as long dunes and they can witness the mesmerizing beauty of the nature. They can get knowledge about the ecosystem and environment. Visiting to such places not only provide benefits to the tourists but also help grow the business of local communities.

In conclusion, as, exploring to such places can increase expenses and can cause the serious health issues but, with the help of new technology and proper tour guide information people can enjoy the trips and get knowledge about ecosystem and diversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question, identifying health and safety risks and high costs as disadvantages, and scenery, learning about ecosystems, and benefits to local businesses as advantages. The response is relevant, but several points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the link between tourism and local business growth is not illustrated, and the benefits receive less development than the risks. The claim about “altitude sickness in Antarctic” also needs clarification, since the main challenge is extreme cold and isolation rather than altitude. Your conclusion gives a balanced view, but the position could be stated more directly. The response is 25 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on disadvantages, one on benefits, and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and signposts such as “In contrast” help distinguish the two sides. To make the organisation more fluent, reduce formulaic transitions such as “Moving further” and “In the forthcoming paragraphs,” and connect related points more explicitly. For instance, the risks paragraph moves from health dangers to cost without explaining how these points relate. Some references are also unclear, particularly “I will explain the both.” More precise linking and clearer references would build on the coherent structure already present.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant expressions such as “extreme weather conditions,” “severe dehydration,” “mesmerizing beauty,” and “ecosystem.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common vocabulary is attempted. However, several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “There is no speck ambiguity,” “transportation charts,” “usual trip,” and “exploring to such places.” “Worst weather conditions” is also imprecise; “harsh conditions” would be more natural. These word-choice and collocation problems do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they reduce precision. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural combinations and check that each phrase expresses the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrastive opening “However, others believe…” and the cause-and-effect sentence beginning “Because of the extreme weather conditions…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “trips to these places is” needs plural agreement, while “Visiting to such places not only provide” has problems with the verb form and subject agreement. Articles and sentence construction are also awkward in “I will explain the both,” and the final sentence has confusing comma placement around “as” and “but.” Work on agreement, gerund constructions, and punctuation in longer sentences; clearer control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to read.
