Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to give my feedback regarding sponsorship in our area. I am pleased to know that this consideration for funding is taken by your company.

On the one hand, It will be beneficial to invest in children's sports team as there is no such sports facilities in our town. In addition our children are keen towards learning cricket, tennis ,football and golf. The improvement in children's sport skills will be good for their career development.

On the other hand, The trend of music and concerts have been increased since 2023. Most local students and adults are interested in musical events rather than other entertainment activities. The open-air concerts will help people to escape from their fast-paced hectic routine.

In my personal opinion, I really like to enjoy live outdoor concert with a cup of hot coffee in winters as it will be more fun for me rather watching children playing sports. would appreciate if you could consider my feedback. Thankyou for choosing our area as your company's project.

Yours Sincerely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a personal recommendation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the justification for the sports team focuses on the lack of facilities, but could be expanded to discuss long-term community health or social cohesion. Similarly, the recommendation is based purely on personal preference rather than a broader community perspective, which makes the argument feel slightly narrow. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'In my personal opinion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the description of the concerts and your personal opinion could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the missing space after commas in 'tennis ,football' and the capitalization of 'It' mid-sentence, which slightly affects the overall readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fast-paced', 'hectic routine', and 'career development'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'keen towards learning' (should be 'keen to learn') and 'the trend of music and concerts have been increased' (should be 'has increased'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and verb tenses. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied descriptive adjectives would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'there is no such sports facilities' should be 'there are no such sports facilities' (subject-verb agreement). You also have issues with articles and capitalization, such as 'the trend of music' and 'would appreciate' (missing subject 'I'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are varied enough to convey your message effectively. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage will help improve your accuracy.
