Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am glad to writing this letter that you give us opportunity for choosing a sponsoring the sports team or concert.

I believed that there are a lot of benefits of sponsoring the sports team such as number of students can participate in different game where they can show their interest in games where they get the prize as well as they get different opportunity even they can gain interest not only for, but for others. so, sponsoring the sports team is great opportunity for students where they can improve their game and never loose their interest in the games.

while, other side if you paying money for concert then different people come and they can perform and they can enjoy and relax also they can connect with their history or classical song also they can enjoy their free time their with family members.

So, i believe sponsoring sports is great opportunity where children can gain interest in games and they can improve instead of just go to concert and listen song because games help to children for getting fit and improve their health.

Yours Faithfully,

Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the benefits of the sports team are mentioned multiple times as 'gaining interest' and 'improving games' without specific examples of how this impacts the community. While the task is fully addressed, the supporting arguments are basic and could be more effectively extended to reach a higher band. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'while, other side' and 'so, i believe' are used to link ideas, but they do not always flow naturally. There is also a lack of variety in transition words, leading to a somewhat repetitive structure. While the overall progression of ideas is clear, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, and the referencing (e.g., 'their with family members') is occasionally confusing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite limited and repetitive. Words like 'interest', 'games', and 'enjoy' are used frequently. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I am glad to writing' instead of 'I am glad to write' and 'never loose their interest' (should be 'lose'). The range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision, and the phrasing often feels simplistic. To improve, you should focus on using more varied synonyms and more natural collocations related to community and sponsorship.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('games help to children'), incorrect verb forms ('I am glad to writing'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack proper clause separation. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the frequency of mistakes prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common verb tense and article errors.
