Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr Kapoor,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give my feedback regarding spending fund on children's sports team or for two open-air concerts.

Sponsoring the sports team brings tremendous benefit to the community as well as for company. For instance, it will encourage the children to access free training and space for sports activities like cricket, football and all, which keep them active and socialise. Also, it will provide them an opportunity to make new friends and build good communication, cooperation and teamwork skills for their personal and professional development.

This kind of charity allow the company to create strong image and earn reputation among the local community.

Allocating funding for concerts have its' own benefits. Firstly, it will promote the community members to attend live concert, which brings the local people together regardless of their cast and religion, which encourage the sense of unity and belonging. Moreover, open-air concerts act as a entertainment source for refreshment and relaxation.

As per my opinion, it would be grate if you give your contribution for sports team in order to encourage the children to adapt good habits, improve physical fitness and become a successful athlete for our nations. It ultimately allow you to gain popularity and build strong professional image in the local community.

I hope my feedback will be helpful to you in any way in this matter. I look forward to your proactive decision regarding funding.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly described the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, summarized the advantages of the concerts, and provided a clear recommendation. Your ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly regarding the social and personal development benefits of sports. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and your position is consistent throughout the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening salutation matches the prompt instructions; you addressed 'Mr Kapoor' instead of the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Despite this minor deviation, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Also', 'Moreover', and 'As per my opinion' to link your sentences and paragraphs. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of your letter, contributing to the overall clarity of the message.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'personal and professional development', 'sense of unity and belonging', and 'proactive decision' are well-chosen and appropriate for the context. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'spending fund' (should be 'spending funds' or 'funding') and 'grate' (should be 'great'). Additionally, 'all' in 'cricket, football and all' is too informal for this type of writing. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would help elevate your score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('This kind of charity allow' should be 'allows'; 'funding for concerts have' should be 'has') and minor punctuation errors ('its'' should be 'its'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization, as these are recurring patterns in your writing that prevent a higher score.
