Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/madam,
I am writing this letter to appreciate and provide feedback on decision to choose local children's sports team sponsorship or contribute for two open-air concerts. I think supporting soccer for under 18 regional kids is an optimal choice.
On one hand, people are more keen and interested in the concerts for the new artists all around the globe. Several different genres of specialist are touring the countries for the live concerts which includes comedians, singers, dancers, crowd-work, etc. In support of those, providing a stage to them is really important.
On the other hand, teenagers nowadays are playing the soccer game more as they are following the FIFA World cup. They can be very famous football player if they are encouraged and well funded. Moreover, our regional children's team is doing great compare to others. In my opinion, they should be sponsored and get the money so that they can be a better athletes from our region.
Thank you for your consideration
Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a clear recommendation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the benefits of the concerts are described in general terms rather than focusing on the specific impact on the local community, which would have strengthened the argument. Similarly, the justification for the sports team could be more persuasive by detailing how the funding would specifically help the children (e.g., new equipment or coaching). Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'optimal choice', 'specialist', and 'well funded'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'people are more keen and interested in the concerts' (which is slightly redundant) and 'they can be very famous football player' (which contains a grammatical error and awkward phrasing). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are consistently natural and appropriate for a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'provide feedback on decision to choose' (missing articles), 'compare to others' (should be 'compared'), and 'they can be a better athletes' (subject-verb agreement error). These errors do not impede communication, but they do occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over articles, pluralization, and verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
