Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. Our community will be thankful to you for sponsoring the sports team or helping to organize two open-air concerts in the area. For that, you have asked public to provide feedback on how we want you to spend the money. In this case, I want to provide some of my concerns, which are discussed below.
Firstly, I want to discuss improving the financial situation of the sports team, which helps children to get training on modern sports equipment and also improves their chances to take part in national and global competitions. Moreover, it will encourage children to take part in sports games. However, organizing two open-air concerts in our community will only boost tourism, and it will help local businesses.
From my point of view, spending some money on local sports teams has more benefits than the others. Please let know if you want to discuss it further.
Regards,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the concert benefits, and stating your preference. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that the sports team helps children get training, you could have expanded on the long-term impact on community health or social cohesion. Similarly, the benefits of the concerts are mentioned briefly as boosting tourism. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported with more specific details or examples to fully develop your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the different options, and a clear conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link your ideas. While the progression is clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall arrangement of information is easy to follow, making the message clear to the reader throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial situation', 'modern sports equipment', and 'boost tourism'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'provide some of my concerns' (concerns are usually raised or expressed, not provided) and 'let know' (which should be 'let me know'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary to convey your ideas with greater sophistication and naturalness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor errors, such as 'Our community will be thankful to you' (usually 'grateful to you') and 'the others' (which is slightly vague in this context). Punctuation is generally accurate, though there is a missing space after the period in the final paragraph. Overall, your grammar is stable and does not impede communication.
