Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this mail finds you well.
I am just come across the advertisment you published in the local newspaper about general pubic view on your plan to allocate funds to local suports team or open-air concerts for two years. I would like to share my view on it. In my pospective, sponser to local sports club whould be benefical for the players future. In addition, majority of players in local club came from under middle class families. Therefore, there families are not able to support them financially.
Furthermore, with you organizations funding sports players can properly maintain their diet. Which is impossible for them to maintain right now due to limited source of income. Consequentely, they will pefrom more effectively in upcoming sports tournaments. Whereas, funding to open-air concerts have its own pros such as with music people feel imoprtance of unity, increase the tourisem as well as can become a source of income in the form of salling tickets as that money can be used in other city developement programes. In my view you show divide the funding in which 70 percent of fund go to sports clubs rest for concert organization.
I hope you will consider my suggestion.
Your sincerely,
Sheebu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it describes the benefits of the sports team, summarizes the benefits of the concerts, and provides a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and the position is consistent throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation regarding the concert benefits is a bit rushed and could have been expanded with more detail. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To improve, ensure that each point is developed with slightly more depth to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria for higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the benefits of each option and concluding with a recommendation. Paragraphing is present, though the body of the letter is somewhat dense and could benefit from clearer separation between the two main options. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Therefore', and 'Whereas' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is interrupted by minor grammatical issues that affect the overall cohesion of the sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'allocate funds', 'tournaments', and 'development programmes'. However, there are several spelling errors ('advertisment', 'pubic', 'pospective', 'sponser', 'benefical', 'imoprtance', 'tourisem', 'salling') and some awkward word choices ('under middle class families'). While these errors do not prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on accurate spelling would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I am just come across' (should be 'I have just come across'), 'sponser to local sports club whould be' (should be 'sponsoring a local sports club would be'), and 'you show divide' (should be 'you should divide'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'Which is impossible for them to maintain right now'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally require the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning, which is characteristic of the Band 5.5-6.0 range.
