Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is in regard to the feedback requested by your CSR team on whether to spend money on sports team or to pay for two open air concerts.
Firstly, the idea of sponsoring the sports team for two year is a great initiative as it will encourage the youth to participate more in sports as most of the youth in our community does not have the means to take up the sport. Secondly, it will help us to compete more on a local level as we would have the resources to execute and organize more tournaments which will help in the development of the community.
While on the other hand, the thought of making two open air concerts is a great idea as well because we have a lot of retirees in our community who will love having another recreation spot.
Conclusively, I believe your team should spend money in a structure where you will be able to sponsor team for a shorted period while also opening one open air concerts.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You described the benefits of the sports team, summarized the benefits of the concerts, and provided a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat brief; for instance, the benefits of the sports team could be expanded with more specific examples of how it impacts the youth. The recommendation is clear, though the suggestion to split the funding is a practical approach that addresses the prompt's requirement to choose how the money should be spent. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'While on the other hand', and 'Conclusively' to guide the reader. While the paragraphing is functional, the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition to the concert paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear throughout the letter, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'initiative', 'resources', 'recreation', and 'conclusively'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'shorted period' instead of 'shorter period' and 'opening one open air concerts' which is grammatically awkward. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited and lacks the precision required for higher bands. However, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your message clearly without any significant impediment to the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'two year' (should be 'two years'), 'most of the youth... does not' (should be 'do not'), and 'making two open air concerts' (should be 'hosting' or 'sponsoring'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are used with greater accuracy.
