Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam

I am writing to express my point of view regarding the investment of money by large organization whether on the sponsoring of local children's sport team for two years or spend on open air concerts.

Firstly, sponsoring the sport team brings numerous benefits not only for the public but also the children's. Children get motivated to take part in sport events instead of living a sedentary lifestyle. When children perform at national or international level they bring the name and fame for country which is proud moment for public and country.

On the other hand, investing on concerts provide opportunity to people to see their favourite artists in reality. Moreover, it is a great source of entertainment during the time of hectic work schedule as everybody remain busy in their work. So, it cater them opportunity to break the monotony of work by enjoying some precious moments through live performance which will rejuvenate their mind.

In my opinion, your company should spend on sports team since, it is extremly require to promote youth talent. Who can

not participate in sport due to unavailabilities of sport facilities. Therefore, healthy children of any country play imperative role in the progression of country. Spending on local children's sport team would be more worthwhile.

Thank you for considering my point of view regarding the sponsorship of you company on two essential things. Hope my feedback provide you general idea

yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. The position is consistent throughout the response. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of the sports team are explained, the argument regarding the concerts is slightly more superficial. Additionally, the final paragraph contains an incomplete sentence ('Who can not participate in sport due to unavailabilities of sport facilities'), which slightly hinders the clarity of the argument. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of explanation could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between the incomplete sentence and the preceding thought is disjointed. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'sedentary lifestyle', 'monotony', and 'rejuvenate', which are used correctly. However, there are also some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'spend on open air concerts' (should be 'spending on'), 'cater them opportunity' (should be 'provide them with an opportunity'), and 'unavailabilities' (should be 'lack'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('everybody remain busy'), article usage ('the name and fame for country'), and sentence fragments. The incomplete sentence in the final paragraph is a notable error that affects the grammatical integrity of the text. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of complex structures is inconsistent. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning.
