Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide feedback on spending a certain amount of money.

In my opinion, I feel that sponsoring the sports team will be beneficial for the children. They will get an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and gain experience that will help in their future. Furthermore, playing sports like football and cricket wil teach value of team-spirit and unity.

In contrsast, investing in open-air concerts will provide a source of entertainment for the local people. Moreover, they will get a chance to meet their favourite singer live on the stage This will also help people to gain inspiration and develop their career in the film industry.

Therefore, I believe that company should invest wisely. As both the things are equally important, but the company should think about the benefits of the people which they will gain from the investement. Additionally, company could divide the amount into ytwo halves, so that both the sponsers would get equal opportunity to showcase their talent.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and providing a recommendation. Your position is clear throughout the letter. To improve, ensure your ideas are more fully developed. For instance, when discussing the sports team, you mention 'future' benefits but do not specify what these are. Similarly, the link between attending a concert and developing a career in the film industry is somewhat tenuous and could be explained more logically. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a concluding recommendation. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'both the things' which is vague. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the request. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the flow between sentences is more natural and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demonstrate', 'inspiration', and 'invest wisely'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'contrsast', 'investement', and 'ytwo', which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'both the things' or 'both the sponsers'. To improve, focus on proofreading for spelling accuracy and expanding your repertoire of collocations to express your ideas with more precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, you missed articles ('the company', 'the value of team-spirit') and made errors in subject-verb agreement and pluralization ('wil teach', 'sponsers'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly the use of articles and consistent verb forms.
