Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide feedback on spending a certain amount of money.
I feel that sponsoring the sports team will be beneficial for the children. They will get an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and gain experience that will help in their future. Furthermore, playing sports like football and cricket will teach them the value of team-spirit and unity.
In contrast, investing in open-air concerts will provide a source of entertainment for the local people. Moreover, they will get a chance to meet their favourite singer live on the stage This will also help people to gain inspiration and develop their career in the film industry.
Therefore, I believe that company should invest wisely. As both the things are equally important, but the company should think about the benefits of the people which they will gain from the investement. Additionally, company could divide the amount into two halves, so that both the sponsers would get an equal opportunity to showcase their talent.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt, providing benefits for both the sports team and the concerts, and offering a clear recommendation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the suggestion that concerts help people 'develop their career in the film industry' is a bit of a leap and lacks logical connection to the local community context. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting points are more grounded and directly relevant to the specific benefits for the local public.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is always precise. For instance, in the final paragraph, the phrase 'both the things' is slightly informal and could be replaced with a more cohesive reference to the two options previously discussed. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demonstrate', 'inspiration', and 'invest wisely'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'benefits of the people' (should be 'benefits to the people') and 'sponsers' (spelling error). You also use the word 'investement' incorrectly. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I believe that company should' (missing article 'the'), 'As both the things are equally important, but...' (incorrect use of 'As' with 'but'), and 'company could divide' (missing article). Punctuation is generally fine, though there is a missing full stop after 'stage'. To achieve a higher score, aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure articles are used consistently before singular countable nouns.
