Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to to provide my feedback regarding general survey your company is doing in regards to sponsor local children's team or to pay for two open-air concerts.
Sponsoring a sport team will have plenty of benefits like children's will get better grounds for practice along with the professional coach who can help individual children to improve their game and we can have best sport team.
On the other hand arranging two open-air concerts will also help our area. as people will get a chance to see their favorite singer performance live, because of these it will also provide good opportunity to local residents to do good business during the concert days as lot of people will come in the concert along with this it will also provide good source of entertainment to people from their busy life.
Both options have it's own benefits but I would like to go for sponsoring the local sports team for two years, as due to this children's will get good exposure in their game and they will get a chance to compete with other teams in the tournaments. there is also possibility that someone can make this as carrier in this field.
Thanks,
Sammik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team, summarize the benefits of the concerts, and state your preference. The ideas are relevant and the position is consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, the explanation of the concerts' benefits could be more detailed, and the reasoning for choosing the sports team relies on general statements. To reach a higher band, try to expand on the long-term impact of your choice with more specific, illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'along with this' to link ideas. However, some transitions are repetitive or slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the benefits of the concerts and the conclusion is a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is always clear would improve the overall flow and cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'professional coach', 'exposure', and 'tournaments'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make this as carrier' (should be 'career') and 'do good business' (which is a bit informal). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the local sports team'), pluralization ('children's will get'), and subject-verb agreement ('it's own benefits' should be 'its'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules and proofread your work to correct errors in articles and possessives, which currently occur frequently enough to occasionally distract the reader.
