Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

Hope you are doing well.

I really appreciate your support for supporting children’s local sport as well as concert funding by your company.

However, I personally believe that by sponsoring local team in our community would be great choice. Children who trained well and talented will benefit greatly if they get support to play on national levels.

Additionally, by supporting them it may also bring parents attention towards the sports and they will be more motivated to send them in this field.

Furthermore, benefit of paying for concert also a great option. Although it has limited potential to attract all generations. Younger generation will more likely have the opportunity to attend and will support local vendors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points, but the development of ideas is limited. The letter is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full discussion of the final point. Furthermore, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the required content. While the position is clear, the lack of completion and insufficient word count mean the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is disrupted by the incomplete final sentence, which leaves the reader without a conclusion. The logical progression is hindered by the abrupt ending, and the referencing is occasionally mechanical. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that the letter reaches a natural conclusion before signing off.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'great choice' and 'benefit greatly' are used repeatedly, which limits the range. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'support for supporting' and 'send them in this field' (instead of 'to this field'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to community development and sponsorship, and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'by sponsoring local team' (missing article), 'Children who trained well and talented' (incorrect verb form/structure), and 'bring parents attention' (missing possessive 's'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a significant issue. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve accuracy.
