Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr Kapoor,

I am writing this letter in providing my feedback regarding funding distribution for either local children's sports team or for two open-air concerts.

Sponsoring the sports team brings tremendous benefits to local community and for the company. Such as, allocating fund for sports team allows the children to get free sports training and take part in various sports competition. Moreover, it will offers them a chance to develop essential skills like, good communication, cooperation, teamwork and leadership. Also, encourage them to stay active and fit. Consequently, it will improve the professional image of company and they will become a popular across the town.

Paying for the two open-air concerts promote the community to enjoy live performance free of cost and valuable time to spend with family. Additionally, concerts would be one of the best source of the entertainment for the society and access them chance to listen live music and thrilling experience for life time.

As per my opinion, company should spend money for children, because sports activities foster them to inculcate important skills and improve their health and well-being. As a result, it would be advantageous for company to earn respect and build strong reputation among the society, whereas children get an opportunity for the sports and make them future.

I hope my suggestions will be helpful to you. I look forward to your positive decision in this matter.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, covering both the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended; for example, when discussing the benefits of the sports team, you could provide a more specific example of how this impacts the company's local reputation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and your position is consistent throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'they will become a popular across the town', where the pronoun 'they' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall readability and help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'allocating fund', 'inculcate', and 'well-being'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in providing my feedback' (should be 'to provide'), 'promote the community to enjoy' (should be 'enable the community to enjoy'), and 'access them chance' (should be 'give them a chance'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the sports team' vs 'a sports team'), subject-verb agreement ('it will offers'), and preposition usage. For instance, 'become a popular across the town' contains an unnecessary article. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that articles are used correctly in context.
