Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my opinion on the spending money on the society.

Children are the future of the community and country. I believe financial aid to sports team could serve national player to our home land. Additionally, there are several number of families which cannot afford expensive gears of the game. As a result, more children will involve in sports games since their parents will encourage them to play various sports games.

Passes of open-air concerts are very expensive in the modern era. Therefore, citizens are deprived from the incredible experience of joy,. If passes are provided to them, they can spend some quality time and joyful experience with their families.

Although music events are a great way to enjoy with loved ones, I incline towards sponsoring a sports team as it supports to build bright future of offspring.

Kind regards,

Dhruvish Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and stating a clear preference. The ideas are relevant and the position is consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim that sponsoring a team could 'serve national player to our home land' is slightly unclear and could have been expanded with more specific detail. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of argument is basic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'As a result,' and 'Although' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure is appropriate for a formal letter, making the message easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'spending money on the society' (should be 'in the community'), 'expensive gears' (gear is uncountable), and 'incline towards' (which is slightly formal but used correctly). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday terms. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'financial aid to sports team' (missing article), 'there are several number of families' (incorrect quantifier usage), and 'supports to build' (incorrect verb pattern). Punctuation is generally functional, though there is an unnecessary comma before the period in the second paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
