Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have seen your proposal of sponsor the children's support team or concert. I believe this is a outstanding act for the community.

The kids in our area are good at many games but I sometimes heard from the children their clubs don't have enough financial stability. If you can support them financially I believe that they will definitely play for international teams.

In the today's stressful life people do not have much to entertainment. The concerts could be the best way for them to the have a moment outside of the stress.

I think you can sponsor the teams for two years and if possible instead of two open-air concerts you can arrange for one concert for the public. It will allow your company to have publicity in both children as well as in the adults. They both carry some different interests so you should focus on both aspects.

Yours faithfully

Davinder

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. Your position is consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that the sports team needs financial stability, you could have expanded on how this impacts the local community or the children's personal development. Similarly, the benefits of the concerts are mentioned briefly. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific details or examples to support your arguments, ensuring the response feels fully developed rather than just a summary of points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely on basic transitions like 'If you can' or 'In the today's'. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', or 'On the other hand'. Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear throughout the text to help the reader follow your argument without effort.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'financial stability', 'publicity', and 'proposal'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'support team' (likely meaning 'sports team'), 'a outstanding' (should be 'an outstanding'), and 'have much to entertainment' (should be 'have much entertainment'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring articles and prepositions are used correctly with your chosen vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the children's support team', 'the today's stressful life'), verb forms ('proposal of sponsor'), and sentence construction ('have a moment outside of the stress'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and work on the correct usage of articles and prepositions, as these are recurring issues in your writing.
