Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to appreciate your efforts to spend a money for local welfare either to sponsor local children's team for two years or to organize two open-air concerts both have its own significance. As feedback, I am in a favour of entertainment therefore open-air concerts would be more beneficial for social bonding.

There are numerous benefits for sponsoring a local children's sports team. One of them is encouragement towards playing outside which would be crucial for their health and children will learn important skills which would be helpful for their future to become a successful person, such as discipline, coordination, leadership, punctuality.

Paying for the concerts is a good idea for the entertainment of people. Apart from the entertainment purpose, concerts will help individuals to enhance their social bonding as well as to break their hectic schedule to reduce stress and to recharge them while listening to live music.

I would like to suggest you sponsor children sport for one year instead of two years and to organize one live concert for people rather than two concerts.

Yours faithfully,

Manveer

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a specific recommendation for how the company should allocate the funds. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the benefits of the sports team are listed as a series of nouns rather than being fully explained in a cohesive manner. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are expanded with more depth and clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One of them is' and 'Apart from the entertainment purpose' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from a more sophisticated range of linking words to improve the flow of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significance', 'coordination', and 'hectic schedule'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'spend a money' (should be 'spend money') and 'in a favour of' (should be 'in favour of'). While you attempt to use more descriptive language, some phrasing remains slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that articles and prepositions are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'both have its own significance' (should be 'both have their own significance') and 'sponsor children sport' (should be 'sponsor children's sports'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved by using more varied punctuation or conjunctions. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
