Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I am writing to provide my feedback on your proposal to spend a certain amount of money, either on supporting local children's sports team for two year or on organising two open-air concerts.

In my opinion, sponsoring children's sports team would be more beneficial for local community. It would encourage children to participate in physical activities, improve teamwork and discipline. It can build healthy habits in youth and promote logical as well as social skills.

Although sponsoring two Open air concerts could provide entertainment for local residents and bring people together. People can get some quality time with friends and family, this benefits would be relatively short term. In contrast, supporting children's sports team for 2 years could have lasting impact on young people.

Therefore, I strongly recommonded to investing money on sponsoring a local children's sport team for 2 years as I believe this provide long term and positive impact on community.

Yours faithfully,

Bijal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, including the benefits of both options and a clear recommendation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that sports improve 'teamwork and discipline,' these points could be expanded with a brief example or a more detailed explanation of how the company's sponsorship would specifically facilitate this. Similarly, the comparison between the short-term nature of concerts and the long-term impact of sports is a good analytical point, but it could be further elaborated to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In my opinion,' 'Although,' and 'In contrast' to link your thoughts. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences is smoother. For instance, the second paragraph relies on short, simple sentences that could be better connected to improve the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'beneficial,' 'participate,' 'lasting impact,' and 'organising.' There are some minor errors, such as 'recommonded' (spelling) and 'investing money on' (preposition error; should be 'in'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the range of less common or more precise collocations that would be expected at a higher band level. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring accurate word choice in formal contexts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' local community, 'a' local children's sports team) and subject-verb agreement issues ('this benefits' instead of 'these benefits'). Additionally, the sentence 'Although sponsoring two Open air concerts could provide entertainment... this benefits would be relatively short term' is a sentence fragment, as the first part is a dependent clause that is not properly connected to the main clause. Improving your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for basic articles will help raise your score.
