Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I really appreciate that your company has decided to spend some money for social welfare. I am writing this letter to provide feedback regarding which social activity should be preferred for investment.

I believe that if the organization use the money to sponsor sports team of local players then it will boost their confidence and interest in sports. As we know that all the young players come from different family background and they cannot afford the expenses of the team themselves. Therefore, unwillingly they have to leave the team. However, your funding will not only relieve the team players from this pressure but also serve as motivation for other children to join sports.

On the other hand, the youngsters will be delighted with your idea of paying for open-air concerts. These free concerts will give them the opportunity to socialize without any financial responsibility and all members of society will be abled to destress themselves and cherish beautiful moments with their friends and family.

From my perspective, the company should support the local support team since it will assist children to follow their passion for sports without worrying about respected finances. Although, free concerts will be liked by all the society members, these will not have any long-term impact on their life.

Yours sincerely,

Pardeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You have clearly described the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, summarized the benefits of the concerts, and provided a clear recommendation for the company's investment. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and your position is consistent throughout the text. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are slightly more detailed; for instance, you could elaborate on the specific 'long-term impact' of sports compared to the temporary nature of concerts to further strengthen your justification.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the benefits of the first option to the second, and finally to your personal preference. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. To improve, ensure that the transition between the benefits of the concerts and your final recommendation is even smoother to enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'social welfare', 'financial responsibility', and 'long-term impact' are used accurately. There are some minor word choice issues, such as 'respected finances' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'abled to destress' (should be 'able to'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations or slightly more sophisticated synonyms would help elevate the response. Overall, the language is natural and communication is never impeded by your word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'if the organization use' (should be 'uses') and 'all members of society will be abled' (should be 'will be able'). Additionally, 'support the local support team' contains a repetitive error. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your meaning is always clear. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your use of modal verbs and passive voice is consistently accurate throughout the text.
