Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear sir,

Here i would like to talk to you about sports which is being played all over the world. My request to you is to sponsor local children for sport so that they can learn some sports activities and get some new ideas of different kinds of sports. The famous sports which i am highlighting is "CRICKET" which is very famous now a days.

Here i would even like to share my thoughts regarding a open-air concerts. Now a days concerts are being held in all different parts of the world were for some people it is not affordable so for that reason we can keep the open air concert so middle class audience can enjoy each part of the concert.

From my knowledge company can spend money through there profit and they can remove some kind of scheme from people by giving them good discount so that the company can cover there expense back.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points, but the development is quite limited. While you mention the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, the explanations are brief and lack depth. The final section, where you suggest how the company should spend the money, is unclear and does not directly answer the prompt's requirement to choose one option. To improve, ensure each point is fully explored with specific reasons or examples. For instance, instead of just mentioning cricket, explain how sponsorship helps the children develop teamwork or physical health. The recommendation needs to be more decisive and clearly linked to the company's goals.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is divided into paragraphs, which is good, but the logical flow between ideas is weak. The transition between the sports team and the concerts is abrupt. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Here i would even like to share', but the overall structure feels disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between 'removing a scheme' and the company's spending choice is confusing. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In contrast') would help guide the reader more effectively through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally simple and repetitive. You rely on basic phrases like 'talk to you about' and 'different kinds of'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'remove some kind of scheme', which does not convey a clear meaning in this context. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to business and community engagement. For example, instead of 'share my thoughts', you could use 'propose' or 'advocate for'. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific terminology will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'sports which is being played'), article usage ('a open-air concerts'), and pronoun confusion ('there' instead of 'their'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the lack of proper capitalization for 'i'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like homophones (there/their/they're) and pluralization. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
