Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to provide my insightful feedback regarding where your company should make an investment for the development of the area.

To begin with, I am delighted and pleasured to know that a renowned company like TKC is coming forward to make a sponsorship. Being youth of the community, I firmly believe that investing money in local sport's arena would be more beneficial, as ample amount of children can be benefit by enhancing their learning which would lead to growth of sports sector at a national level.

Flipping on the other side, developing a two open-air concerts will generate immense amount of money. Well, it can also cause disturbance to the residences during the play of the event. In my opinion, investment for children's sports would be more fruitful on long term goals where pupils gets the opportunity to enhance their cognitive skills by playing different sports.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I will be looking forward to a response which leads to a better outcome in future.

Yours sincerely,

Maitri Kapadiya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team, summarize the benefits of the concerts, and state your preference. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how concerts generate money is vague, and the mention of 'cognitive skills' for sports is a bit generic. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your reasoning with more specific examples or logical consequences, such as how the sports team fosters community spirit or how the concerts might impact local businesses.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals such as 'To begin with', 'Flipping on the other side', and 'In my opinion' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions are slightly unnatural or mechanical. For instance, 'Flipping on the other side' is not a standard idiomatic transition for contrasting ideas. Paragraphing is used correctly, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, though the flow between sentences could be smoother with more varied cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'renowned', 'sponsorship', and 'fruitful'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pleasured to know' (should be 'pleased to know') and 'Being youth of the community' (should be 'As a young member of the community'). Additionally, 'sport's arena' is used incorrectly; 'arena' usually refers to a physical building, whereas you likely meant the 'sports sector' or 'field'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'developing a two open-air concerts' (should be 'developing two open-air concerts'), 'can be benefit' (should be 'can benefit'), and 'pupils gets' (should be 'pupils get'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help elevate your score.
