Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide feedback on behalf of the general public on how the company should spend its money, on a children's sports team or two open-air concerts. There are several advantages if the company uses money to sponsor the sports team in which talented young athletes can get equal opportunity to showcase their skills. In addition, good sportsmen can get a chance to present themselves at national and global level.
Open-air concerts can be beneficial in different ways for example, it gives people a chance to socialize and take a break from their hectic routines. Moreover, the company can promote its products and services in the concerts and can enhances its reputation.
I would appreciate it if you could spend two-thirds of the money to support the sports team, and rest of the amount can be utilized to organize a music concert. This would allow both the company and the local community to benefit.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing a positive response from your side.
Yours sincerely,
Reena

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt effectively. You clearly described the benefits of the sports team, summarized the advantages of the concerts, and provided a specific recommendation for how the funds should be allocated. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'benefits'—for instance, explaining how the sports team fosters community spirit or how the concerts specifically benefit the local economy. Your position is clear and maintained throughout the response, meeting the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' (implied) to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical. To improve, ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. For example, the transition between the sports team benefits and the concert benefits could be more sophisticated. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'showcase their skills', 'hectic routines', and 'utilized'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'good sportsmen' (which is a bit simplistic) and 'can enhances' (a grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary. For example, instead of 'good sportsmen', you could use 'aspiring athletes' or 'talented youth'. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'can enhances' (should be 'can enhance') and 'rest of the amount' (needs an article: 'the rest of the amount'). Additionally, 'in which talented young athletes can get equal opportunity' is a bit clunky. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Despite these errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the mistakes do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
