Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to provide my feedback regarding your investment.

To foster children's sport is inevitable for their future goals also their cognitive development. If you allocate money for two years on sports pupils will encourage to take participation in physical activities which beneficial for their career. Additionally, there is no any sport activity center in our town it will be good decision.

On the other hand, concerts must be priortise as part of entertainment as there is less entertainment ouside areas nowadays. Furthermore there are plenty of talented people in our area so they can bring their skills among the people.

As my opinion, company must spend equal amount of fund for both sport and concert so people can equally focus on those activities.

I would appreiciate if you take my feedback positively.

Yours faithfully,

Om P

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points, providing benefits for both options and a clear recommendation. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The arguments are somewhat brief and lack the necessary depth to fully explore the impact of the sponsorship or the concerts. For instance, the suggestion to split the funds is a valid position, but it is not supported by a detailed rationale. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or consequences to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor grammatical errors that make some sentences feel disconnected. The transition between the benefits of the sports team and the lack of facilities in the town is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors, such as 'priortise' instead of 'prioritize' and 'appreiciate' instead of 'appreciate'. Phrases like 'take participation' are non-standard; 'participate' or 'take part' would be more natural. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'cognitive development' and 'allocate', the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of common academic and professional terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'To foster children's sport is inevitable' is awkward, and 'there is no any sport activity center' contains a double negative error. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'company must spend'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve your accuracy.
