Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to the news that your company has decided to spend money for either for pupil's sports team or for concerts.
On one hand, sponsoring our children sports team particularly cricket team has many advantages. To start with, it will help them to get a good practicing ground. There is no proper place to practice their sessions. Moreover, they will get branded equipment such as bats, balls and stumps.
On the other hand, people will be happier, if you conduct open air-concerts. This will be an opportunity for the individuals to participate in a live performance. In addition, the fund collected from this programs are going to the charity organization, which actively supports the people, who are aged and has no house.
In my opinion, you have to invest in the concert, since it will be beneficial for the community. The charity organization is genuinely contributing a lot to the people, who are in needs.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Helen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt, providing benefits for both options and a clear recommendation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the benefits of the sports team are described in basic terms, and the connection between the concert and the charity is introduced abruptly without sufficient explanation of why this makes the concert a better choice than supporting local youth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended and supported with more specific detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more precise. The transition between the description of the charity and your final recommendation is a bit abrupt, which slightly affects the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sponsoring', 'participate', and 'consideration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pupil's sports team' (should be 'pupils' sports teams') and 'fund collected from this programs' (should be 'funds collected from these programs'). Additionally, 'people, who are aged and has no house' is a bit clunky and could be expressed more naturally. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'has no house' instead of 'have no homes' and 'this programs' instead of 'these programs'. There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for these small but frequent errors and try to incorporate more varied complex structures to demonstrate greater grammatical control.
