Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my opinion on sponsoring the local children games or two open-air concerts.

Spending the money on local children's sports for two years can help young individuals to practice and choose whatever sports they prefer. This will enhance their confidence because while practicing and playing multiple sports, they will develop valuable life skills such as critical-thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. Therefore, this initiative is very essential for overall growth of the young Generation.

However, hosting two open-air concerts could create sense of community among individuals. With this options, not only the kids but also other people can enjoy and get a chance to witness a unique social experience.

But I prefer your organization to spend this substantial amount of money on children. As they are the future of the nation. Their personality development and skill enhancement is significantly important.

Thank you for considering my opinion. I will be happy whatever your organizations will choose.

Your faithfully,

Davis Will

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly described the benefits of the sports team sponsorship and the concerts, and you provided a clear recommendation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more developed; for instance, you could explain how the sports team benefits the company's reputation or how the concerts might specifically impact local businesses. However, your position is consistent throughout, and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'Therefore,' and 'not only... but also' to link ideas. To improve, try to vary your transitions further, as some of the sentence connections feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, ensure that your referencing is precise; for example, in the final paragraph, 'the children' is clear, but ensure that the flow between the benefits and your final recommendation remains smooth.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. Phrases like 'unique social experience' and 'personality development' are well-chosen. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'local children games' (should be 'children's sports') and 'With this options' (should be 'With these options'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered 'flexible' or 'precise' at the higher band levels. Focus on using more idiomatic collocations to enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are accurate, there are recurring grammatical slips, such as 'this initiative is very essential' (essential is an absolute adjective and does not need 'very') and 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in 'critical-thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork' where the hyphens are unnecessary. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding of your message.
