Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir or madam,

I am writing to give my opinion about how your company should spend their money on local community. Although, both options have their own benefits, i think sponsor children's sports would be better option.

There are several advantages if children's sports team get sponsored, they will stay fit and healthy, learn new games and valuable skills while playing with others such as communication, team work, and how to tackle problems. This can boost their confidence. Moreover, sponsorship money can be used to buy uniform and sports equipment without giving burden to their families.

Paying for two years open-air concerts could also have some positive effects. Concerts can bring families and friends together at the same time while enjoying the moment and also these kind of concerts help to introduce renowned faces to everyone. Moreover, concerts will attract tourists which directly help small local businesses to sell their products. which directly help to boost their income.

However , i would recommended sponsor children's sports team would be good idea, open

-air concerts is short term entertainment while sponsor a sports team will help to find future athlete and could have lasting effect on their health and development.

Thank You.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, including describing the benefits of both options and providing a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. For example, you effectively contrast the long-term developmental benefits of sports sponsorship with the short-term nature of concerts. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening statement is more formal and avoid minor grammatical slips that slightly affect the clarity of your position. Overall, the response is well-structured and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Although' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor punctuation errors, such as the comma usage in 'However , i would recommended'. Additionally, some sentences are slightly repetitive, such as the final sentence in the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renowned faces', 'lasting effect', and 'development'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'without giving burden to their families' (should be 'without placing a burden on their families') and 'i would recommended' (should be 'I would recommend'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, there are issues with subject-verb agreement ('i think sponsor children's sports would be better option'), missing articles ('the' before 'children's sports'), and capitalization ('i' should be 'I'). Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as the final sentence of the second paragraph. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence boundaries will significantly improve your score.
