Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to you for giving you a feedback on whether company have to spend money on sports team or on open-air concerts.

Regarding the pros of sponsoring the sports team, without any worry about joining fees, children can pursure their skills and hobby. Moreover, in these two years of period if they won nationally than they can also play internationally. Also, for sports they can buy essential things related to games.

Regarding the benefits of paying for the concerts, it will give some time to people for relaxation and rejuvanet. Additionally, they could attend concert with their kith and kins so, they will get great opportunity to explore local artists and people.

I think you should have to spend money on local children's sports team for atleast two years so in these period they can develop their skills and knowledge about the sport rather than on concerts.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours Faithfully,

Pragati Nanera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and stating a clear preference. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion that children could 'play internationally' is a good point, but the explanation of the concerts is a bit vague. The position is clear throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to expand on the benefits with more specific examples or deeper reasoning, rather than relying on brief, general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Consequently' (implied) helps the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally awkward, such as in the phrase 'in these two years of period'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics, which helps the reader follow the argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication. There are some spelling errors, such as 'pursure' (pursue) and 'rejuvanet' (rejuvenate), and some awkward collocations like 'kith and kins' (which is an idiom but used slightly unnaturally here). The range is sufficient to communicate the message clearly, but the student relies on fairly common words. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic or formal vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'for giving you a feedback' (should be 'to give you feedback'), 'company have to' (should be 'the company has to'), and 'if they won nationally than they can' (should be 'if they win nationally, they can'). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede the reader's understanding of the main points. The student needs to work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense and articles to improve accuracy.
