Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter will find you in good health and high spirits. I am writing this letter in order to inform you that your company has decided to spend a certain amount of money, either to sponsor a local children's sports team for two years, or to pay for two open-air concerts.
Nowadays, children prefer to sit at home instead of playing in the ground. Due to small funds children are not able to play at higher level of that sport. Their team needs a sponsor to play at higher level. To attract more people towards your company, you can arrange an open-air concert, where your company logos will be displayed. By arranging an open-air concert the sales of your company will be increased.
As per my opinion, your company should sponsor a local children's sports team for two years, which will encourage the children to play at their best at higher level. It would be the best for your company as it will help to increase the goodwill of your company. It would be great pleasure for me, if you would sponsor a local sports team.
Yours faithfully,
Ranveer Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You have described the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you have clearly stated your preference. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the benefits of the sports team are described in general terms ('play at higher level'), and the concert benefits focus primarily on company sales rather than community impact. To reach a higher band, you should expand on how these initiatives specifically benefit the local community or the children involved. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the two options, and a concluding recommendation. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Nowadays', 'Due to', and 'As per my opinion' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel repetitive in structure. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next by using more sophisticated cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'goodwill', 'sponsor', and 'open-air concert'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the phrase 'higher level', which is used three times. There are also minor issues with collocation, such as 'playing in the ground' (should be 'playing on the field') and 'small funds' (should be 'limited funding'). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations to express your ideas with greater variety and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'I hope this letter will find you' is slightly unnatural (usually 'I hope this letter finds you'), and 'As per my opinion' is better phrased as 'In my opinion'. There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'at higher level' (should be 'at a higher level'). Despite these errors, your grammar does not impede communication, and you show a reasonable attempt at complex sentence construction.
