Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing my opinion regarding company's proposal to either money should be spent on children's sports team or for two open-air concerts.
Sponsoring a children's sport team would bring a significant benefit for community. Firstly, young generation will be encouraged to participate in different sports, such as cricket and tennis. This will lead to improve their physical strength. Additionally, being part of a team can teach children to maintain discipline, and they can also improve their skills while practicing with seniors.
The main advantage of paying for concerts is that it helps local business. When there is any concerts are held in one area, there are lots of people form different city come to see it. They not only eat food, but also stay for fewer days in that area. As a result, all benefits go to small businesses. Furthermore, it also helps to make strong relationships among people because people spend time with them and support emotionally.
In my opinion, I believe that money should be spent to support local children team because it not only improves in their physical growth, but also teach them various techniques, such as time management and discipline.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your faithfully
Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the development of the second point regarding the concerts is slightly hampered by grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'there are lots of people form different city come to see it.' While the position is clear throughout, the response could be improved by providing more specific, nuanced examples to fully flesh out the arguments, which would move it into the higher band range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Additionally,' and 'Furthermore' helps to guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the second paragraph regarding the concerts. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'significant benefit' and 'participate.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'fewer days' (likely meaning 'a few days') and 'support emotionally.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and collocation to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('there is any concerts are held'), article usage ('the company's proposal'), and pluralization ('children team'). Punctuation is generally correct, but the closing 'Your faithfully' is incorrect (should be 'Yours faithfully'). These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message.
