Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Mam,

I hope your are in good spirits. I am Manpreet kaur and am writing this letter to express my thoughts on two specific tasks: One is to sponsor sports team for local children and other is to give two free concert tickets.

With regards to sports team, I would say that if company spends some money on children, then surely it will have a positive outcomes on their life as they can get a better opportunity to show their skills in the playground if sponsor team provides latest sports equipment. At last, this way definitely will make them more successful and confident in later life.

Now, in terms of concerts ticket, it can also be a good idea to give free tickets to the public as they would probably manage to reduce their stress after listening music as most youngsters are still under pressure.

I think you should spend money on children sports as it is more necessary to think about their future and at this young age, they would be eager to learn more.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity and I hope your company will make wise choice.

Yours Faithfully,

Manpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: the benefits of the sports team, the benefits of the concerts, and your recommendation. Your position is clear from the beginning and maintained throughout. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the benefits of the sports team could be expanded with more specific examples of how the equipment helps, rather than just stating it makes them 'successful'. Similarly, the concert section is brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more depth and detail to provide a more comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'With regards to', 'Now, in terms of', and 'At last' to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'At last' used to conclude a point rather than a sequence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use relevant terms like 'sponsor', 'equipment', and 'stress'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give two free concert tickets' (the prompt mentions paying for concerts, not just tickets) and 'listening music' (should be 'listening to music'). There are also minor errors like 'Mam' instead of 'Ma'am'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope your are' (should be 'you are'), 'if company spends' (missing an article, 'the company'), and 'positive outcomes on their life' (should be 'outcomes in their lives'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization inconsistencies. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and proofreading for minor slips.
