Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter in connection with feedback regarding on how your company should spend money, either on sponsoring on local children's sports team or organizing two open-air concerts.
Firstly, sponsoring a local children's sports team for two years is extremely beneficial for their cognitive development. This would be a great idea as to support the young generation, and this would become a platform to express their talent in sports.
On the other hand, organizing two open-air concerts is highly beneficial for local vendors and small businesses, as there will be more crowds, which will ultimately increase the profit percentage. People will gather there and make different groups. They will enjoy it.
I believe that, sponsoring the sports team is a better option, as it will support the local children's growth and their cognitive development.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Name

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you state a clear preference for the sports team. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that sports sponsorship is beneficial for 'cognitive development' is a bit vague and could have been expanded with more concrete examples of how this happens. Similarly, the benefits of the concerts are described in general terms. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended and supported with specific details or logical reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized logically with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'I believe that' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the benefits of the concerts and the concluding paragraph could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which meets the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. You rely on common phrases like 'great idea', 'make different groups', and 'enjoy it'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also minor issues with collocation, such as 'feedback regarding on how', which is grammatically redundant. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to community development, economic impact, or social benefits to show a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'sponsoring on local children's sports team' contains an unnecessary preposition, and 'as to support' is awkward phrasing. There are also minor punctuation and article usage errors throughout. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
