Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my view regarding the proper use of the money for charity purpose.

Motivation is the primary benefit for the local sports team, as children get the financial support, this support not only offers them to explore new competitions, but it also makes them more confidence, which ultimately help children to perform well in the future.

On other hand, if this money, used in the open- air concerts, the arrangements would be more better in the future, as the stage requires various kind of sound system and decoration, which can be arranged by the team, if more funds will avliable.

From my standpoint, company should provide 70% of the money to the sports team, as younger sports team require more support, which ultimately helps young players to perform well in sports, and rest of the money should be allocated to the concert.

I would really appreciate if you could take these options into consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Nardeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a specific recommendation for the allocation of funds. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the benefits of the concerts are described in a vague way regarding 'arrangements' and 'decoration', which lacks depth. To improve, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended with concrete examples or logical reasoning. Your position is clear throughout the letter, which is a positive aspect of your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On other hand' and 'From my standpoint' to signal shifts in your argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For instance, the phrase 'if this money, used in the open-air concerts' is grammatically disjointed, which disrupts the logical progression of the sentence. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help your ideas flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'financial support', 'allocated', and 'competitions'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'more better' (a double comparative) and 'avliable' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of less common vocabulary and ensure that your collocations are accurate. For example, instead of saying 'more better', use 'significantly improved'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'as children get the financial support, this support not only offers them to explore new competitions, but it also makes them more confidence' (should be 'more confident') and 'if more funds will avliable' (should be 'are available'). The use of articles and verb forms needs more attention. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conditional structures will significantly improve your accuracy.
