Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am very delighted to hear that your company is going to contribute for the locals. I would like to give some of my suggestions in this matter.

First of all, sponsoring local sport team is very thoughtful decision as sports team in this area are not getting much funding for their national games. Therefore, having good budget for the team will provide players better equipments, health benefits and good coaching. More and more younger generation will show their interest to participate in sports because of that financial help.

There are also some benefits of paying for concerts for locals. Firstly, free concerts will attract a good amount of visitors not only from surrounding but also from nearby towns and cities. As a result, it will contribute to the business of the local shop owners. And watching live song played by some famous artist would be a dream of many individual who can not afford to pay thousands of dollars to enjoy live concert.

Personally, I firmly believe paying for a concert will beneficial for short term whereas funding sports team would be a great investment on the atheletes which will contribute a lot to a country later.

Thank you for your good doings in society. I greatly appreciate that.

Yours faithfully,

D

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team, such as improved equipment and coaching, and the benefits of the concerts, such as economic stimulation for local businesses. Your position on how the money should be spent is clearly stated in the final paragraph. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a logical flow that meets the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more nuanced; for example, you could elaborate on why the long-term benefits of sports outweigh the short-term economic gains of concerts to provide a more persuasive conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use transition signals such as 'First of all', 'Therefore', 'There are also', and 'As a result' to connect your ideas. While the structure is sound, some of the cohesive devices are a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between the benefits of the concerts and your final recommendation is smoother, perhaps by using a more sophisticated contrastive connector.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contribute', 'financial help', and 'investment'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'contribute for the locals' (should be 'contribute to the local community') and 'good doings' (which is not standard English). Additionally, 'atheletes' is misspelled. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal or non-standard phrasing. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to community development or event management would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'sponsoring local sport team' (missing article 'a'), 'players better equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun), and 'would be beneficial' (missing 'be'). There are also minor issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization. To improve, pay closer attention to articles and the correct usage of uncountable nouns. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
