Student answer (Band 5.0)
dear sir ,
gurwinder singh writing a letter to you , firstly we are very thankful to spending on our area for the community . there are numerous benefits of sponserd a local sports team like boost kids confidence to playing in their area and it help their insitutions financially to help in their sport to get new equipments. as we see the concert on other side with any doubt we say in todays era a music has large audience it help them to support our
community programmes and also to start a donation on the concerts for needy people. By these all the measures we see the concert is more beneficial as compared to local team because it help us to fund raise for someone and it attracts a great audience in our community last but not least a it help to shine our local area and community name broadcasting on internet and on tv .
thankyou

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the benefits of the sports team, the benefits of the concerts, and a clear recommendation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the benefits of the sports team are mentioned briefly as 'boost kids confidence' and 'new equipments', but these points are not fully expanded upon. The recommendation is clear, but the reasoning provided is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations for your choices and ensure the tone is consistently formal and appropriate for a letter to a company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. While there is a logical flow from the benefits of the sports team to the concerts and then to the final recommendation, the lack of sentence connectors and proper paragraph breaks hinders the overall structure. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'as we see the concert on other side'. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and organizing the letter into distinct paragraphs would significantly improve the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'sponserd' (sponsored), 'insitutions' (institutions), and 'equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun). The phrasing is often simplistic, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to community projects and sponsorship, and pay closer attention to word forms and spelling to ensure your message is communicated clearly without distraction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('a music', 'the concerts'), incorrect verb forms ('sponserd a local sports team'), and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters and improper comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would be a good starting point for improvement.
