Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Ma’am,

This is Mahtab, a resident in your neighbourhood.I really appreciate the opportunity you provided to the local public for a feedback about your upcoming sponsorship program.

Sports and physical activities play a crucial role in health and fitness, these activities attract young adults to participate and are a keen source of recreation.Sponsoring the children sports team will put a positive impact on the society.

While on the other hand’s, the local concerts will gather people together, publicity’s stunt for the company and totally recreational activity.

As per my suggestion the company should invest more in sports team and spend less on concerts.Children are our next generation, investing in them will help them to grow and thrive. With this we are contributing in national cause as well as these children becoming very good athletes in the future making the whole nation proud in the world.

My vote goes to sponsor the children sports team.

Thanks for your attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a definite recommendation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the benefits of the concerts are mentioned briefly as a 'publicity stunt' and 'recreational activity' without much elaboration. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific details or examples, such as how the concerts might benefit the local economy or community spirit, rather than just stating they are recreational.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While on the other hand's' and 'As per my suggestion', to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly awkward or misused, such as 'While on the other hand’s', which is grammatically incorrect. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother; some sentences feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words and phrases would help create a more natural and professional progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sponsorship program', 'recreation', and 'thrive'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'publicity’s stunt' (should be 'a publicity stunt') and 'contributing in national cause' (should be 'contributing to a national cause'). These errors do not prevent communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that nouns and verbs are used in their correct forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'a resident in your neighbourhood.I' (missing space after period), 'children sports team' (should be 'children's sports team'), and 'these children becoming' (should be 'these children will become'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with apostrophes and spacing. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation rules will significantly improve your accuracy.
