Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide you some crucial feedback on the decision you are about to make for our town’s development.
Sponsoring the local children’s team can help them achive their goals as an athelete. With the sponser they can buy new and better equipments and can have advance coaches. While the money can also be spent on improving the infrastructure of the stadium which can benefit everbody.
Allocating your funds towards open-air music concerts can help bring people together which can help local business as well. As it will attract tourists which will shop locally in the town and help the development. The concerts is also a good way take away some stress from people minds.
In my opionion, spending the money own sponsoring them children’s team is a better choice as it will help them achieve their goals in future by having better facilities now.
Hope this feedback will help you make the right decision and thank you for helping in the town’s deveopment.
King regards,
Mavi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the concert benefits, and stating a clear preference. The position is consistent throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how concerts help local businesses is brief and could be further extended to reach a higher band. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed reasoning or specific examples to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'As', and 'In my opinion' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the sports team benefits and the infrastructure point in the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'achive', 'athelete', 'sponser', 'equipments', 'everbody', 'opionion', and 'deveopment', which are noticeable. While the range is sufficient to discuss the topic, there is a lack of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. The word choice is functional but basic. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to community development and sponsorship to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'provide you some crucial feedback' (missing 'with'), 'can have advance coaches' (should be 'advanced'), 'The concerts is' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'spending the money own' (preposition error). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication, and the reader can easily understand the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading to eliminate minor slips in grammar and punctuation.
