Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am happy to see that this large firm have decided to invest some money to the community so I am writing this letter to give my feedback on a wise investment.

There are myriads reasons why i believe it would be great if you go with sponsoring a local team in the upcoming FIFA tournament. Firstly, I feel that this would encourage and support their spirit as they do need proper trainers for this big challenge and this money will help to recruit a better coach. Secondly, when I was there last week to watch practice I notice they were playing with bare foot on asking I got to know many players come from financially back word class so they can not afford a pair of sport shoes.

On the other end, paying for the concerts will attract youngsters and the company can get free promotion form it. In addition, it can be really good community engagement event.

I believe that the company should spend on sponsoring local team as well as giveaway free tickets for the tournament this way it will serve both the motives of the firm.

Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt, providing benefits for both the sports team and the concerts, and clearly stating your preference. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the specific observation about the sports team's lack of equipment. However, the response could be improved by expanding slightly more on the benefits of the concerts, which currently feels a bit brief compared to the sports section. Your position is clear throughout the letter, and the tone is appropriate for a formal request to a company.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some sentences are a bit disjointed. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more smoothly between sentences. Paragraphing is used correctly to separate the different topics.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'invest', 'community engagement', and 'promotion'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'myriads reasons' (should be 'myriad reasons'), 'financially back word class' (should be 'financially backward' or 'underprivileged'), and 'form it' (should be 'from it'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Focusing on correct collocations and checking for common spelling errors will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this large firm have' should be 'has'), missing articles ('with bare foot' should be 'barefoot' or 'with bare feet'), and punctuation errors. While you attempt complex structures, the control is inconsistent. To improve, pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will be key to moving into the 7.0 band range.
