Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my concerns regarding a large company in your area which has decided to spend a considerable amount of money either to sponsor a local children’s sports team for two years or to pay for two open-air concerts.
Firstly, When I came to know you are sponsporing the team, I was so glad. There is a major benefit if you sponspor the team that is everyone would have access to more resources like better coaching which further includes better diet and training and this helps to train the children more effeciently.
Secondly, paying for the concerts also has its benefits as recently after covid the prices of concerts went so high which makes it easier for regular person to attend the concert. This could make it possible to make more memories and have fun.
According to me, you should spend money for sponsporing the sport’s team as there would be long term success for children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the benefits of the sports team, the benefits of the concerts, and a clear recommendation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the concerts is slightly confusing, as the logic that high prices make it 'easier' for a regular person to attend is contradictory. The response is also quite brief, and while it meets the minimum length requirement, the ideas could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper reasoning to reach a higher band. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening paragraph is slightly repetitive of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The use of linking words such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'According to me' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, the cohesion is somewhat mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'sponsporing' and 'effeciently', which occur multiple times. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'major benefit' and 'have fun'. While the meaning is clear throughout, the frequent spelling mistakes and the lack of more sophisticated or varied lexical items prevent a higher score. To improve, you should focus on accurate spelling and incorporating more precise collocations related to community investment and social benefits.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'When I came to know you are sponsporing' (tense/preposition usage) and 'the prices of concerts went so high' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the unnecessary apostrophe in 'sport’s team'. The grammatical errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would be beneficial.
