Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing in response to your request for public feedback regarding whether your company should sponsor a local children's sports team for two years or fund two open-air concerts. While both options would benefit the local comapny, I believe that sponsoring the sports team would be a more worthwhile investment.

Supporting a children's sport team would provide numerous long-term benefits. First and foremost, it would encourange young people to participate in regular physical activity, which can improve their fitness abd overall well-being. In addition, being part of a team member helps develop valuable skills such as communication, discipine, leadership and cooperation.

On other hand, paying for two open-sir concerts could also have a positive impact on the community. Such events would bring residents together and provide affordable entertainment for people of different ages. Furthermore, concerts could attract visitors from nearby areas, benefits local restaurants, shops and businesses.

Nevertheless, I would recommend sponsoring the children's sports team. Unlike concerts, which would provide enjoyment for only a few days, A two-year sponsorships would create lasting benefits for young children and encourage healthier lifestyles.

Thank you for considering my views. i hope you will choose the option that provides the greatest long-term benefits to local residents.

Yours faithfully,

Hani Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all parts of the prompt. You clearly described the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, summarized the advantages of the concerts, and provided a clear, well-reasoned recommendation. Your position is consistent throughout the letter. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a logical justification for your choice. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company, and the structure follows the standard conventions of a formal request for feedback. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are balanced in terms of depth; your argument for the sports team is slightly more developed than the section on the concerts, but this does not significantly detract from the overall quality of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central focus, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'Nevertheless'. These transitions help the reader follow your argument easily. The paragraphing is appropriate, separating the introduction, the two main body points, and the conclusion. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the flow between sentences is smooth. The overall structure is coherent and professional, meeting the requirements for a high band score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, such as 'worthwhile investment', 'regular physical activity', 'overall well-being', and 'lasting benefits'. However, there are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'comapny', 'encourange', 'abd', 'discipine', and 'open-sir'. While these do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, ensure you proofread your work to catch these slips. Your word choice is generally precise and fits the formal context of the letter well. With more careful editing, your lexical control would be even stronger.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. For example, 'While both options would benefit the local company, I believe that...' shows good control of complex sentence construction. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'being part of a team member' (should be 'being a team member') and 'benefits local restaurants' (should be 'benefiting local restaurants'). Additionally, there is a minor error in 'A two-year sponsorships' (should be 'A two-year sponsorship'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your meaning is always clear. The punctuation is generally accurate throughout the text.
