Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to give my feedback upon the idea of spending money on sports team or organizing a couple of live concerts.
By sponsoring the sports team, players might feel honoured and put extra efforts in order to achieve first position in state games. In addition to this, spectators may get motivated and many youngsters might start taking parts in games in schools as well as in colleges. Perhaps, individuals become more healthy and passionate.
Organizing live concerts may boost the economy of the city because many people from neighbour regions might visit and spend money to buy food and accommodation. Moreover, live concerts may become the reason of the popularity of our city as concerts could be telecasted live on television as well.
I think the money should be utilized to sponsoring the sports team for two years because it could be a reward for the team. As each player works hard and spends their time in practicing that can further lead to the win. Moreover, many players of our town's sports team are going to take part in next year olympics. So providing them with best resources can help them in acquiring gold medal that can make our city well known in the globe.
Thank you for your efforts.
Yours faithfully,
Dharmveer Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team sponsorship and the concerts, and you provide a well-supported recommendation for the sports team. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully developed; for instance, while you mention the Olympics, linking the company's specific investment to the athletes' training needs would strengthen the argument further. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'Moreover', and 'So' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. For example, the transition to the final paragraph could be more sophisticated to better signal your final decision.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'boost the economy', 'well known in the globe', and 'providing them with best resources' are relevant to the topic. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'taking parts in games' (should be 'taking part') and 'telecasted' (the past participle is 'telecast'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise or idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'give my feedback upon the idea' (should be 'on'), 'individuals become more healthy' (should be 'healthier'), and 'utilized to sponsoring' (should be 'utilized to sponsor'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage errors throughout. Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
