Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter in response of the feedback you are asking about sponsoring sports team or paying for concerts .

It is very advantageous to support children’s sports by sponsoring them for two years because it keep children healthy not only physically but mentally also . Sponsoring local children team are vital because there are some students so are not good enough in studies and learning sports and sports skills are quite expensive. If government would allocate fixed amount in sports they will learn and compete in teams . As a result they will learn discipline and team work and ultimately purse their career in sports field also .

There are also some benefits of paying for concerts because it is targeting the all ages from children to old age and they will enjoy live music openly and relives their stress and constraint on work later

I think governing authorities should spend 75 of on supporting teams and 25% should be on organizing concerts this will benefit both children and other ages of society.

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt, providing benefits for both the sports team and the concerts, and offering a clear recommendation for the budget allocation. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the response could be improved by providing more specific examples of how the sports team benefits the community or what kind of concerts would be most effective. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more depth rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As a result' and 'There are also some benefits', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transitions between sentences can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'some students so are not good enough in studies', which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your arguments would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advantageous', 'allocate', and 'governing authorities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'response of the feedback' (should be 'response to the feedback') and 'purse their career' (should be 'pursue their career'). Some phrasing is also slightly awkward, such as 'targeting the all ages'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are natural and contextually appropriate for a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'it keep children healthy' (should be 'it keeps') and 'Sponsoring local children team are vital' (should be 'is vital'). There are also punctuation and article errors, such as '75 of on supporting' and 'in sports field'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
