Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I heard an announcement regarding the sponsoring to the sports team from a large company. It encourages children to participate in sports team whether they have money of joining or not. Apart from this, it will help that particular town or city to represent them at a national or international level.

There are a few benefits of paying for the concerts as well. For example, it generates the employment for the local people. In addition, it provokes more people to join singing or learn new art without thinking about the money. As well as, people can enjoy and get the experience of it for free.

I would like to give the suggestion to spend money on sponsoring the sports team, everyone can get equal chance to participate and prove themselves. Also, there may be a chance that anyone from them can become one of the popular player in their sport.

I hope you will consider my proposal.

Yours faithfully,

Vipal Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, such as inclusivity and potential for regional representation. You also outline the benefits of the concerts, mentioning employment and cultural engagement. Finally, you state your preference for the sports team. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how concerts 'provoke' people to join singing is slightly unclear in its phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended with specific examples or more sophisticated reasoning, rather than relying on brief, general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'In addition', and 'Also' to link your ideas. While these are functional, the flow is occasionally mechanical. For example, the phrase 'As well as, people can enjoy...' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the cohesion. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that transitions between sentences feel more natural and less like a list of points. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'sponsoring', 'employment', and 'proposal'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'provokes' (which usually has a negative connotation) instead of 'encourages' or 'inspires', and 'money of joining' instead of 'membership fees'. There is also a slight repetition of simple structures. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to community development and corporate social responsibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'sponsoring to the sports team' (should be 'sponsoring the sports team'), 'generates the employment' (should be 'generates employment'), and 'one of the popular player' (should be 'one of the popular players'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
