Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing with regards to a feedback for the decision of whether to spend a specific amount of money on children's sports or to spend on two open-air concerts. It is very respectful that you are taking the opinion of the citizens. I would really like to appreciate your company to acknowledge and respecting the decision of the local community.

The first thing is if you spend your money on the local children sports that will definitely increase the chances of children participating in it as well it will encourage the other children to participate in games.

Paying for the conerts is also beneficial for the society as it will promote the togetherness in socierty and also the young ones will get a complete different experience. The concert not only boost the economy but also the local artist will get a chance to perform and show their skills.

However both options will have good impact on society but i believe that sponsoring the children is a better option since they are the furture of society and more deserving. I would be waiting for your decision.

Yours Sincerely

Ana

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and stating your preference. Your position is clear from the beginning and maintained throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the benefits of the sports team could be expanded by mentioning physical health or character building, and the concert benefits could be more specific regarding the type of community engagement. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are more fully extended rather than just stated briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The first thing is', 'However', and 'also'. While the flow is generally easy to follow, the transition between ideas could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences and paragraphs more naturally, ensuring that the progression of your argument feels seamless rather than mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'local community', 'boost the economy', and 'promote the togetherness'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'a feedback for the decision' (should be 'feedback regarding the decision') and 'respecting the decision' (should be 'respecting the opinions'). Additionally, there are some spelling errors like 'conerts' and 'socierty'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling and word formation throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I would really like to appreciate your company to acknowledge and respecting' (should be 'I would like to appreciate your company for acknowledging and respecting') and 'if you spend your money... that will definitely increase' (a comma is needed after the 'if' clause). There are also issues with article usage and verb forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help boost your score.
