Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my opinion regarding a company's proposal to either sponsor a local children sports team for a two years or to pay for two open-air concerts.

The benefits of sponsoring child's sports team, children can develop their career by joining the sports activity such as foot ball, cricket, and attending music classes. Moreover, it enhance the communication skills and socialization aspects for children. Sports activity develop strong physical fitness for any individual apart from it children make feel proud to the community by participating in sports team.

Benefits of paying for the concerts having entertainment aspects for children and other people too. Any age group can attend the concerts, although People can get together with their family and friends while attending the concerts which is also beneficial to local business near by the concerts to increase the growth of income.

According to my perspective, both the developments have their own benefits, Although spending amount to sponsor for children's sports would be help children to enhance their social skills and career, whereas pay for open-air concerts is for short term entertainment activity.

Thank you for considering my opinion. I hope you will choose the option that provides the greatest long-term benefit to our community.

Yours faithfully,

Krupal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a clear recommendation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the claim that sports help children 'develop their career' is vague and slightly illogical in this context. The explanation of the benefits of concerts is also quite brief. To improve, ensure that your supporting points are more specific and logically connected to the main idea. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the arguments could be enhanced to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'According to my perspective'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the use of 'Although' at the start of the final paragraph, which does not effectively contrast the preceding ideas. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as 'Sports activity develop strong physical fitness for any individual apart from it children make feel proud'. Improving the flow between sentences would help the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'socialization', 'entertainment aspects', and 'long-term benefit'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'children can develop their career by joining the sports activity' and 'make feel proud to the community'. These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your message. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for a formal letter. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Sports activity develop'), article usage ('a two years'), and sentence fragments ('Benefits of paying for the concerts having entertainment aspects'). These errors are noticeable and sometimes require the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and using articles accurately. Proofreading for these common errors is essential.
